I will once I have enough monies! I plan on doing the rest of the suspension (shocks, struts, springs, bushings, the lot) this summer, so I was going to hold off until then. I was going to order the stock SVT suspension again, which unsurprisingly, isn't cheap or easy to find :| However, once I do, hooliganism will ensue.

Are you going to do each separately, or are you going to get a coilover which comes with all the parts? I would look into good coilovers, they can really help the car and sometimes ride better than stock. Although, good ones are around 1500, which ain't cheap.

I'd love to get a proper coilover kit, but I can't really justify such a big purchase given my car's somewhat questionable reliability streak (the cheapest kit I've found is like $110 for an Eibach Pro-Street setup). Ford makes an SVT suspension kit for the Focus that comes with everything but the bushings, I was just planning on getting that and just getting bigger sway bars. The stock suspension on the SVT cars is absurdly well set-up, and I'm of the mindset it would be an investment of diminishing return. BTW, what're you doing with your suspension? You post all the time about power upgrades, you plan on doing any chassis work along with it?

My suspension upgrades? Well, I also want coilovers, but they are FACKING expensive. Like a set of KW V1s will set me back 1500, as much as I spent on the entire exhaust.

Plan is to get wheels and tires for extra grip and lower weight. I don't think I will be getting coilovers. The stock suspension is really well set up, so I don't think there is a need for the coils just yet(plus lack of funds). I will however need to get some camber adjustment. So I will get a front camber bolt and rear lower control arm. You can't adjust camber unless you get these twos, which is really annoying. I might get some sway bars, but I honestly don't know yet. I may also get some springs just to lower it a bit for the looks, but not too low as to ruin the handling.

Sounds like you've got a plan, I don't imagine the FR-S was really in need of drastic aftermarket suspension work anyways. Springs might not be a bad idea, your friend's white FR-S looks awesome sitting a bit lower than stock. Now I wish I had a new car to upgrade like you guys do, all my money's going into fixing stuff, haha.

Yeah, his car does look awesome. I wish I had done all the mods he had, but I don't have the money.

And if you want a car to upgrade a car you could always get one of these. In fact it was my plan to buy one of these, plan didn't go to plan as it turns out.

A 240sx would've been an awesome choice, too bad it didn't work out. Truth be told, I'd love a project car, but I would need money, space, and time, and as a college kid I have none of those three haha. For now my little Focus will do.

It is true, I have zero space and time. Particularly in the summer. Protip: Don't take summer classes and work full time. You're gonna have a bad time. The only reason I have money was because I saved up for 5 years for a car. Hopefully, I can finish up the expensive mods real quick. . . otherwise I will have to live in my car for the last year of school.

Working and summer classes doesn't sound like fun at all, haha. I'd love to take summer classes, but I need money to pay for school! On top of that, I deliver pizzas so I'm often in a Catch-22 situation where I need to work to get money to fix my car so I work more, but working puts extra wear on my car and I need money to fix it, and it turns into a never-ending vicious circle. Not to mention living alone in college is expensive, man.

I am planning on doing it again this summer, but this time instead of Calc 2 I am going to take differential equations. . . I plan to be very frustrated.

And I wish I could live alone, but it is very expensive. Luckily, I get my own room, so it isn't too bad living with 2 other people.

Diff eq. definitely doesn't sound like fun, especially during the summer. Props to you for taking it, though, I'm too selfish and lazy to take any summer classes even if I had time.
Living on your own is awesome, but I'd rather have roommates. It's super expensive and it definitely gets lonely sometimes, and that's coming from someone who scored the maximum possible for 'introversion' on a personality test. Granted, it's better than the dorms, I'll guarantee you that.

I've been considering getting this bar for my SVT. Right now it's on H&R coilovers with an H&R rear bar and it understeers all the time. Surprising considering that they're supposed to be paired up.

Kinja'd!!! Tyler's SVT Focus Hates Him > Aero
01/23/2014 at 10:28

Kinja'd!!!0

That is really strange, you'd figure they'd work together. Do you still have the stock front bar? A lot of the guys on the forums run a big rear with a stock front and seem to do just fine, though I'm not sure what other suspension mods they're running.

Kinja'd!!! Aero > Tyler's SVT Focus Hates Him
01/23/2014 at 13:23

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I'm running the stock SVT front bar. One issue that might be causing the understeer is the alignment, there's about 2 degrees of rear camber and a little bit of toe-in. The SVT should have a little bit of toe-out in the rear and less camber to increase rear tire slip in cornering. Gotta buy some adjustable arms for it.

I think I had to take a similar test in Pharmacy, and I scored a 97 on the introversion part. I pretty much keep to myself. I would love a room to myself, but like you said, money is the limiting factor. The dorms were too much for me. My roommates loved leaving the door open which resulted in random people coming into my room. . . I was not pleased.

My roommate did the exact same thing! People would waltz in while we were doing homework or whatever and just hang out for no good reason. They never had anything important to say, either, it was all just worthless trivial bullshit like what party they went to the night before or how much they drank or what girls they hooked up with (I had a ton of fratbros on my floor, so that was like 95% of the conversations).

I'm totally with you, the dorms were too much for me as well. You could never 'get away', and there was all sorts of unwanted stimuli: people, music, etc. The worst was that you were expected to be as sociable and outgoing as possible, something that goes against the very fiber of my being. If you don't, you're some weird loner who by virtue of not wanting 24/7 social interaction is somehow 'wasting' his college experience (according to floormates when I mentioned I liked time alone). I knew I wouldn't like the dorms, but I didn't know how much I wouldn't. My little apartment, though expensive, is 1,000,000 times better just because it's a quiet space where I can do my own thing. Plus I have a guaranteed parking space :P

/end rant haha

Yup, basically my experience. I was never open enough to tell my roommates that I hated having the door open. So I had to deal with all the idiots. Like one dude, who would literally shout down the hall. PLUS I know get my own bathroom which means no disgusting stained toilets.

Also, did you do boiler gold rush? My parents said it would be good for me. . . it wasn't. It was the exact opposite.

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh dear god, don't remind me about the bathrooms... I don't like to complain, but yes, I hated boiler gold rush as well. Everyone I knew who had gone to Purdue loved it and said it was the best week ever and I should totally do it, but I can comfortably call it one of the most miserable weeks of my life. If anything, it made me more introverted and quiet since I was more aware of those tendencies being around all those people. Everything about it seemed so forced and fake, like people were pretending to be nice and social because that's what they felt like they had to do, nothing seemed genuine. Plus BGR didn't teach us anything about campus, like where buildings or classes were or anything, so you were just as lost on the first day of school as you were the first day of BGR. I wish I would have enjoyed it as much as everyone else did, but it just made me extremely uncomfortable. Sorry to dump walls of text on you, man, it's just nice to find people who feel similarly.

Yet more parts haha. Do you autocross the car? I'd love to jump into some suspension mods when I refresh the whole setup this summer, but I can't really justify spending a ton of money on aftermarket parts when the stock suspension handles so well. As you can tell from this post, I was just going to get bigger sway bars and order the stock SVT suspension kits, but since I don't track the car, do you feel like the aftermarket suspension is worth it? Always looking to get input from other SVTF owners, Lord knows there's not enough of us.

No dude, its all good. I completely understand. My friends don't though. I really just don't want to talk to many people. Doesn't help that I am super shy either. It isn't that hate everyone, it is just that I don't want to talk to them.

I went to BGR for one day, and then never did any of the other activities. The group I was in, was not very friendly. They were talking because they had to. Plus it made me feel terrible because it felt like I was the only person not having a good time.

Kinja'd!!! Tyler's SVT Focus Hates Him > YSI-what can brown do for you
01/24/2014 at 01:21

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly. My friends too seem to think I hate people, though I really just don't like socializing for the sake of socializing. It doesn't help most of the people I know are fraternity/sorority members, so they've been conditioned to talk to as many people as possible. It seems like if you don't drink and party you don't have a lot to talk about. I'm super shy too just because I know how few people share or care about my interests (metal, cars, history, etc.), so I mostly keep them to myself.

Actually, it's not even friends that are the worst. The people who know me know me very well and kinda get me, it's family that sucks. Every holiday or break I go home family members love ask how hard I party or how I fit time in for school with all the fun I'm having *elbow and a wink* and I don't have the heart to tell them I'm either in the library doing homework or in my apartment reading or watching Netflix or something. That's my idea of fun. It sucks having to pretend like you're part of the crowd because that's what you're expected to be...

And sorry to hear your BGR group was so terrible. My group had a few cool people in it so I went to all the events, though I haven't spoken to any of them since like spring semester last year. It seems like BGR was designed to acquire a lot of casual friends quickly, which isn't the way to make good friends. Could just be me, though.

My idea of fun is snacks and exploring the internet. Not a big fan of parties either, plus I am not big on drinking or getting wasted. So I honestly have no reason to go to parties and I never do. I don't know why people expect you to party in college. I honestly think it is a waste of time, and I know about wasting time.

My family is Indian, so we are all about the studies. No one really cares about your social life, so luckily I don't have to answer their questions.

I haven't tracked or autocrossed it yet. I'm hoping to take it to a local track this summer.

After driving a stock SVT back-to-back with mine I have to say that the stock suspension is prefect for daily use. My H&R coilovers can be a bit brutal on rough roads, and they're supposed to be the best riding of the coilover setups.

I'd avoid the Steeda rear bar, mostly because it would create some insane lift off oversteer when coupled with the stock SVT suspension.

Kinja'd!!! Tyler's SVT Focus Hates Him > Aero

Kinja'd!!!0

Sounds good, just curious what other owners are up to. The Steeda bar isn't something I'm dead set on in the least, especially since the stock bar is stiff enough to induce lift-off oversteer pretty easily anyways. Eibach makes a 22/25mm front and rear set I was looking at as well, the Steeda bar is one of those "well, I could " upgrades I don't really need. Plus I'm a broke college kid, so it's not like I have money for any of these upgrades anyways haha.

I kinda wish my family was Asian for that reason haha. They all went to party schools (IU and DePaul mostly) so all they talk about when me and my twin brother (who goes to IU and is somewhat ironically, the antithesis of me) are home is partying and social lives and the like. I don't get it. I mean, you go to college for a degree, fun should be secondary to that. I have yet to go to any parties or drink, yet trying to explain that would be virtually impossible to most Americans. I know a couple foreign exchange students and it seems their values align with mine more than my old high school friends'.

Exactly!! I was pretty sure I was the only one at school that didn't go out and party. I guess I am not, which is a great feeling. Now I don't feel like such an outcast.

And although, they may not talk about partying, Indian families like to stab each other in the back. So it is no fun.

I'm sure there's way more of us, we're just too introverted and shy to find each other. I'm trying to imagine starting an Intoverts Club where no one shows up to the meetings haha.

I've heard Asian families are super-competitive, especially when it comes to academics. One of my friends flies back to India (Jaipur, I think) every year for a family reunion and he says it's just one big fight, especially among his medical-student cousins. Still sounds better than the racist ignorant hicks I call family, all they talk about is "that (n-word) Obama tryin' to steal my guns and my tax money turn my kids into socialists". Lafayette isn't too bad of a town, but the rest of Indiana can be super backwards, especially up north.

If you don't mind me asking, are you from Indiana? I know you mention going to both Indy and Chicago Cars & Coffee's, it's always nice to find someone who lives in the area on Oppo.

I am from Indiana. I live up by Gary, IN, but not actually in Gary. Like 20 minutes away from that place. It isn't too bad, just really boring.

Imagine your families racism and the Asian families competitiveness and you will get my family. It isn't fun let me tell you. Luckily my family doesn't really hang out with other people from our family. . . mostly cause they suck.

Same deal with my town, safe but boring. I'm from a small town NW of Indy that's entirely composed of rich old white people who buy their kids terrible, expensive cars (a girl in my class got a Toyota Avalon as a HS graduation present), and give them huge amounts of money for no reason, which the kids then spend on drugs and alcohol. My parents moved there to get away from their redneck families so we hardly ever see them, either, it's just weird to go over during Christmas or Easter and be reminded of how bigoted and irrational they are.

Yeah my parents never gave me anything in high school. Although my high school wasn't much better. Lots of druggies there. There was a kid who did crack with his dad. Turns out they held crack parties there. . . someone OD there and then they dropped them off outside a hospital where they died. Ahhhh yeah.

My town was half and half. Party of it was full of progressive hippies, the other with backwards rednecks. But everyone seemed nice and no one was killing each other.
